This stylish little stripey cardigan was inspired by some of the sweaters Zooey Deschanel wears in New Girl. She is always just so darn cute, and since baby sweaters are supposed to be cute, I thought this would make, you know, a cute sweater. Even though this was inspired by the most feminine person alive, being that it’s a cardigan with no shaping it’s actually pretty darn gender neutral so it would be just as suiting for your stylish little man as your stylish little lady, or when you don’t know what gender the baby you are knitting for is gonna be, or if you’re very politically correct about gender. So many potential scenarios! So many stripes! So perfect!
This sweater is very easy to make, and the only seaming is at the end with the armholes and also the button band. Which is probably exactly the kind of seaming you’d like to avoid if you’re the kind of person who likes to avoid seaming, but I promise you it’s worth it for how nice the finished product looks. Sewn on button bands are my favorite, they always just look so put together. This one is knit in a rib with needles that are much smaller than those used for the body. Doesn’t it look nice? You know you want to knit it.
Here’s to all your fashionable little unisex children who love stripes!
